Our Swim Baby Swim program is for babies and toddlers, aged from 2 months through to 3-4 years of age, who are swimming with a parent in the water. Bubs & Toddler class are generally grouped according to age, with a maximum of 5 students per class (6 on Saturdays).
The benefits of staring swimming from a young age are immense. Alongside the obvious swimming and water safety skills, children who swim regularly from a young age achieve land based milestones earlier, develop social skills faster and do better at school than children who don’t. Studies have shown that young children who participate in swimming lessons are reaching key milestones up to 15 months earlier than their peers, by the time they start school.
Start your baby on their aquatic journey with our free 8 week newborn class. This is an educational and stimulating water familiarisation program that will promote bonding, movement, and social, emotional and physical development in your child. This is as much an educational program for parents as it is for the babies, as we will teach you a number of simple exercises that you can do at home, to encourage and develop your child’s love of the water.
Babies of this age are becoming more alert and interactive, and starting to develop their balancing and crawling skills on land. This class is designed to develop their water confidence and breath control skills. You can expect your babies to start exploring the underwater world, holding their breath on command and being happy and confident in the water.
Babies of this age are becoming very mobile and energetic and are crawling, pulling themselves up on furniture, and beginning to walk. In this level they will participate in fun activities to help further develop their gross motor skills. You can expect your babies to be learning breath control, floatation, movement and safety skills.
This challenging but exciting age group’s walking and running skills are improving on land and they are also becoming more independent and assertive socially. You can expect constant movement, fun activities and verbal direction in this level, with a focus on kicking, paddling, independence and safety.
Toddlers of this age group are starting to develop physically, losing their baby fat and improving their coordination and fine motor skills. You can expect a little more structure in this level, whilst maintaining our emphasis on fun based learning activities. Children will be working on straight leg kicking, paddling, changing direction and popping up for a breath.
Children in this level are socially and emotionally ready to take direction from an instructor, but still want mum or dad close by for reassurance. Kids can expect to build on skills learnt in previous levels, but with more of a focus on safety, taking turns, and taking instruction from the teacher. As their confidence grows, parents will participate less, remaining on the step to get children ready for lessons without mum or dad in the water.
Our Independent Beginners program teaches the fundamentals of learning to swim and water safety to children who are grouped according to aged and ability, and who are in the water without their parents. Commencing on the learn to swim journey for the first time without mum or dad in the water, can be incredibly exciting for some children and very daunting for others. Our qualified instructors are passionate about building trust, nurturing children to help them overcome their fears and challenging those kids who are yearning to get in there and go.
It’s our philosophy to use teaching methods that create positive learning experiences and to use fun based activities to help reinforce skills. This approach not only teaches children essential water safety skills, but also a love and affinity with the water that helps us to further develop correct technique. It’s our belief that these positive experiences accelerate the learning process and we have seen it deliver consistent results.
Safety skills form an integral part of our Independent Beginners program. Each class runs for 30 minutes and features a maximum of three students per class with four in Beginner 4’s. This allows for more one on one time with our instructors and maximum swim time per lesson. Less waiting for a turn and more swimming equals progress you can measure and see.
Our Beginner 1 level is a gentle introduction to the water for those children who have fears or who have never had swimming lessons before. We guide and encourage children through some fun activities to help them overcome their fears and become comfortable in the water. We also introduce them to some basic movement, breath control and safety skills.
Our Beginner 2 level is for children who are familiar with the water and happy to put their eyes in but aren’t quite swimming yet. In this level they will learn how to hold their breath and blow bubbles properly, and they will also learn to trust the water through floatation and gliding activities. Safety also forms an integral part of this level, with children learning how to tread water and return to safe places independently.
Our Beginner 3 level builds on the children’s floatation and gliding skills by teaching them how to move through the water independently, with different movements of their arms and legs. They also learn how to breathe while moving and they will continue to improve their safety skills.
Our Beginner 4 level has been designed to help refine children’s movement patterns and give them a better understanding of how to control their bodies in the water. Children will work on improving their body positions, increasing the distance they can front and back kick, and basic big arms prior to moving up to the stroke development levels. Safety skills remain an integral part of this level.
Our Stroke Development program builds on the fundamental skills learnt in our beginner levels. This ability based program and has been designed to further develop correct technique in all strokes, reinforcing water safety skills and progressively developing children’s endurance whilst still having lots of fun along the way. These 30 minute classes provide a pathway for those interested in progressing to squads.
Now that children can maintain good body positions in the water and have mastered basic movement patterns, our first stroke development level teaches them how to prefect their front and back flutter kicks, a correct pattern of freestyle arms and introduces side breathing. Survival swimming and treading water remain an integral part of the lesson.
In our Stroke 2 class, children will continue to improve their freestyle with a focus on developing correct head positions and timing when side breathing. They will also learn a correct pattern of backstroke arms. Survival swimming over a longer distance and treading water remain an integral part of the lesson.
Now that children have developed correct freestyle and backstroke technique we focus on extending the distance they can swim whilst maintaining the correct technique. In this level we teach children to swim freestyle breathing every 4 arms and backstroke with continuous arms. Survival swimming over increasing distances and treading water remain an integral part of the lesson.
This level introduces bilateral breathing and extensions of backstroke as children focus on mastering these strokes and improving their endurance over increasing distances. Breaststroke kick is also introduced, while survival swimming and treading water remain an integral part of the lesson.
Our final stroke development level sees the introduction of butterfly kick and the fine tuning of the other 3 strokes in preparation for squad. Children graduating this level are able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 50m, breaststroke for 25m and butterfly kick for 15m with good technique.
Once swimmers have achieved a level of swimming, in all 4 competitive strokes, where they no longer require intensive instruction they are ready to progress to our training squad. Children at this level will continue to refine and perfect each stroke and practice racing techniques such as starts, turns and finishes. They will also gain an understanding of aerobic and anaerobic training to prepare them for competition or swim club should they wish to follow this path.

If you intend to use your child’s NDIS funding to pay for term fees, you will need to complete a Service Agreement, which is attached to your child’s invoice for each term. This Service Agreement needs to be completed regardless of whether your child’s plan is being self-managed, NDIA managed or managed by a Plan Manager.
Navigating the NDIS can be very confusing, especially when you are new to it. We are more than happy to help with this process, so please feel to contact us if needed.
If you’re looking for a good all-round form of exercise, our Aqua Aerobics sessions are just the thing for you, as they provide a low-impact workout on the joints and are great for endurace, muscle tone and strength.
Aqua Aerobics combines the calorie burning benefits of aerobics with the therapeutic properties of water. Running, jogging and water walking in a pool is the ultimate low impact, high cardio exercise that will develop cardiorespiratory fitness and strengthen the legs and hips. The water acts as a cushion for the body’s weight-bearing joints, reducing stress on muscles, tendons and ligaments. As a result, aquatic workouts can greatly reduce the injury and strain common to most land based exercises.
Our Aqua Aerobic classes are delivered by fully qualified instructors and run at various times throughout the week, so please contact our reception team for an up to date timetable.
Hydrotherapy is the use of water for pain relief, therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise. The unique properties of water, including; temperature, the decreased effects of gravity, the effects of buoyancy, and hydrostatic pressure are used by qualified professionals to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of clients with a wide range of conditions.
There are many benefits to hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy can decrease pain and swelling, increase function, strength and range of movement. It has been shown to improve mood and sleep in some, fitness and weight loss in others.
Above & Beyond Swim School works in conjunction with a number of local physiotherapists to provide Hydrotherapy classes in our private, well maintained pool that is heated to 33°C year round.
